We use Everyday Mathematics developed by The University of Chicago School of Mathematics Project. It is the same program your child had in KGD if he/she attended Longacre Elementary or another school in the district. With this program children learn basic skills by solving problems based on everyday situations, practice basic skills in a variety of engaging ways, revisit concepts over the course of the year and work at a level that best meets individual needs.
With each new unit of study you will receive a family letter highlighting the content being explored and ideas for engaging your child at home in the area of mathematics. In addition to the family letters, homework pages have information for you about the concepts in the lessons.
Math homework should take your child no more than 5 to 10 minutes and comes home almost every day. It is a quick practice of what was done in class that day. It should be completed by your child (only with help as needed) and reviewed by an adult. Then your child should pack the reviewed homework in his/her green folder to bring back to school in the morning.
